I have always felt that portrayals of ghosts in popular culture have lacked a certain realism. When was the last time you met a ghost that could do anything substantial? At best, they can slightly move things around when no one is looking, but they mostly just seem to make shadows move at the end of a long coridoor.
Also, ghosts aren't real and totally can't actually do anything... because they're fake.
