Sometimes I wonder why there is a 3-part epic based on the Lord of The Rings trilogy, but no one has thought to turn In Search of Lost Time into an epic, action-packed film series. Who wouldn't spend 40 hours watching a nameless protaganist contemplate the nature of involuntary memory?
Seriously, though, this novel is probably the best example of what a novel can do that no other medium could do. In Search of Lost Time will never be successfully adapted to any other medium. At least that's what everyone says when I ask them to read my 9,000 page screenplay.
